Insurance surveys and purchase surveys

Surveys for boats in the Niagara area including Grimsby FPYC Fifty Point, Hamilton RHYC, Bronte, Burlington BSBC, Port Dover and St.Catharines.

Getting ready

There are a few things you can do to make the survey go smoothly. Charge up and connect the batteries. For sailboats, locate your mast on the rack. Ensure that all lockers are unlocked. Unlock your boat and ladder. Your attendance during the survey is optional, it usually takes 2-3 hours. I am happy to point out what I am checking as I go, or you can show up at the end of the survey to get a quick verbal report. The written report will follow 2-3 days later.

A tip

I keep a little magnet in my tool box to ensure that all fittings are really stainless steel. In particular this applies to hose clamps from local hardware stores that can have iron parts.

Did you know?

If you have a P strut then you should have a zinc on the shaft between the strut and the hull. Put it close to the P strut to prevent total loss of the shaft if the coupling lets go. But keep it far enough away so that water flows through the cutless bearing to keep it cool.
